You do not need to take a test if you are traveling to the UK, if you have a medical condition which means you cannot take a test – you must present a note from a medical practitioner at check in and to Border Force staff on arrival in England.

You must take a test on or before day 2 for variant surveillance and on or after day 8 to check that you do not have COVID-19. The day of arrival in England will be treated as day 0. ou will not be able to leave quarantine until you have received a negative result from your day 8 test and quarantined for 10 days.

On arrival in England

Quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days. Take the two (compulsory) COVID-19 tests on or before day 2 and on or after day 8.

I must really check my eyes, because I don’t see that you must quarantine in a special accommodation.

You are not allowed to change the place where you’re quarantining except in very limited circumstances. It’s necessary and permissible for you to stay overnight at an accommodation before traveling to the place where you will be quarantining for the remaining period.

The Test to Release Scheme

You may be able to end quarantine early if you pay for a private COVID-19 test through the Test to Release scheme. If the result is negative, you can end your quarantine.

The test provider will either send a test to your address or you can attend a testing site. You may leave your house to post your test or to travel directly to and from the testing site. You should follow safer travel guidance and avoid public transport if possible.

If you choose Test to Release, you must still book and take your 2 compulsory travel tests.

You cannot take your Test to Release test until you have been in England for 5 full days. If you arrive in England on Monday, Tuesday will be your first full day of quarantine. You can take a test no earlier than the 5th day after arrival in England - Saturday. You still need to take the compulsory test on or after day 8.

Possible scenario:

1. NV arrived Apr. 1
   
2. she stayed in a hotel and left Apr. 6
   
3. she took a Test to Release test on Apr. 6 and it was negative

Defining ‘essential travel’: Sometimes we say that only essential travel is advised. Whether travel is essential or not is your own decision.
