This is the second time that I’m anxious to watch something on NX and again I’m not sure which midnight it will be released. Is it the midnight on the 22nd (between 22nd and 23rd) or the midnight on the 23rd (between 23rd and 24th)? Again, I’m freaking out!

We have a few weeks to figure it out. But I’m pretty sure it’s midnight on the 22nd PT or 3am ET.

Henry Cavill Fans Can’t Get Enough Of His Enola Holmes Hair

While Brown is clearly at the center of the story, fans are also taking notice of Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes, especially his dark curly hair. Cavill’s locks were one of the most pleasant surprises to come out of the film’s teaser, and fans quickly took to social media to discuss them. Now, following the full trailer’s release, Cavill stans have become infatuated all over again.

The latest Enola Holmes trailer dropped only yesterday, but plenty of people have been offering their thoughts on Henry Cavill’s hair on Twitter. Many fans see it as one of the key elements that makes up this new “hot” Sherlock Holmes:

_2. I am extremely here for Henry Cavill’s little Superman curl.

  1. God bless the casting director who was like “Hear me out for a second... what if Sherlock Holmes was hot?”_

When it comes to Henry Cavill’s hair, there isn’t exactly a competition, yet one fan took the liberty of assigning a score to the hairdo. And it can definitely be said that they were more than generous:

henry cavill’s curls in the new enola holmes trailer: ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Sherlock Holmes is primed to be another role that Henry Cavill becomes synonymous with, and it could even rival his fan-favorite role as Superman. One fan has even pointed out one way in which Cavill’s Holmes look improves upon his version of the Man of Steel:

Thank you, Netflix for giving us what the Superman movie couldn’t: Henry Cavill’s curls.

It’s something that fans appreciate so much that some are already creating montages with the Cavill footage we’ve seen so far:

Thank you @netflix to let us see Henry’s curls in all their glory!

Henry Cavill Fans Are Loving His Sherlock Holmes Look

While the movie is clearly about Enola (it's the titular role), Sherlock has been the one stirring up the most conversation on social media since the trailer's debut. Man of Steel and The Witcher star Henry Cavill is taking on the role of the iconic detective in this new film, and the Internet is already in love.

This Cavill is impeccably-dressed, clean-shaven, and sporting a set of curls on his head that would make even Superman jealous. For many online, this may be the best-looking version of Cavill that has ever appeared on-camera. Then again, The Man From UNCLE may have something to say about that.

Netflix's Enola Holmes Trailer Teams Millie Bobby Brown Up With Henry Cavill's Amazing Hair

The movie's first trailer just arrived, which features the a great cast, some action, and Henry Cavill's amazing hair.

Netflix subscribers have been curious to see the first footage from Enola Holmes, and the trailer did not disappoint. It looks like the title character is in for a unique adventure that will require brains, heart, and the occasional etiquette lesson.

Enola […] she’s joined by her brothers Mycroft and Sherlock, played by actors Sam Claflin and Henry Cavill respectively. The latter actor's hair is particularly glorious for this movie, with waves that will no doubt look surprisingly perfect throughout the adventure.

The Internet’s Absolutely Loving Henry Cavill As Sherlock In Enola Holmes

Despite boasting Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown in her first-ever leading role in a feature-length film, the internet’s attention almost immediately shifted onto Henry Cavill, who squeezes his massive frame into a tweed ensemble as Sherlock Holmes. No stranger to spawning memes having reloaded his own arms in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and grunted his way through The Witcher while also delivering the contractually-obligated shirtless scenes, fans now can’t get enough of his take on the literary icon,

Why Enola Holmes' Sherlock Is So Different From Previous Versions

Unlike previous versions of the character, Henry Cavill's Sherlock is portrayed as being far kinder in the upcoming Enola Holmes movie adaptation. Few literary characters have been re-adapted and re-imagined onscreen as often as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous creation has over the past century.

Yet, for all the many ways Sherlock has been reinterpreted, he's never been refashioned as a particularly nice or considerate fellow. Not until recently, anyway.

Adapted from the book series of the same name by Nancy Springer, Netflix's upcoming Enola Holmes stars Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes' younger sister

Whereas Mycroft (Sam Claflin) disapproves of Enola's untamed manner and insists she be sent to a boarding school to learn how to become a properly-behaved lady, Cavill's Sherlock is more inclined to defend her and praises Enola for her intelligence and independence.

While others might have a harder time looking past Sherlock's antisocial tendencies, to Enola he's merely her older brother and the more affectionate of her crime-solving siblings. It makes equal sense for Sherlock to be far more sympathetic to his sister's plight than Mycroft. Never one for convention, he's probably more than a little proud of Enola for bucking against Victorian society and what's considered appropriate for a woman to say or do.

'Enola Holmes': Film Review

In the well over a century since authors started writing their own stories starring Arthur Conan Doyle's signature character, Sherlock Holmes has been revived from the dead in the future, fought Lovecraftian horrors and been transported to the Holodeck of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Occasionally, these professional fan-fictions have a subversive aim, and the kind offered by Nancy Springer's YA series of Enola Holmes books is among the most appealing for today's audiences: What if Sherlock, who was famously distrustful of women, actually inherited his astonishing qualities from a proto-feminist mother? And what if he had a long-discarded baby sister who showed similar gifts of deduction?

Enola was born when Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes (Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin) were nearly grown. Their father died and the brothers moved off around the same time, leaving Enola to be raised as their mother saw fit.

Forced to return home after many years away, the brothers seem rather put out. Sherlock initiates an unhurried investigation, seeming to know on some level that his mother has agendas he may not want to uncover, while the stiff-necked Mycroft has a more urgent mission: Get this unsocialized child into a finishing school whose headmistress (nicely played by Fiona Shaw) turns girls into "acceptable wives and responsible mothers."

Netflix's Enola Holmes review: Millie Bobby Brown is terrific even if the mystery isn't

If you're wondering why in all of the numerous on-screen versions of Sherlock Holmes we've never heard of Enola before, it's because the character was entirely the creation of author Nancy Springer.

That means you don't have to concern yourself with canon or timeline consistency in Enola Holmes. It also lends the movie an immediate sense of freshness as Sherlock is a supporting character here and, shock horror, he actually shows some emotion (which has genuinely led to a lawsuit against the books and movies).

It helps that Millie Bobby Brown is terrific as Enola, charismatic and endearing in a role that could easily have become irritating.

There's good support from Henry Cavill's warmer take on Sherlock and Sam Claflin's wonderfully horrid Mycroft

Enola Holmes Review

Based on the book series by Nancy Springer, the result is a sweet, family-friendly adventure — even though it could give its headstrong protagonist more richness and complexity.

There’s the frustration with her brothers — Henry Cavill offering a stoic take on Sherlock, Sam Claflin sharply pantomimic as Mycroft — and men more broadly

Well-intentioned if sometimes lacking in subtlety, Enola Holmes offers a fine, spirited reminder that a traditional story can always be retold — although it might need more refined teachings on feminism next time.

‘Enola Holmes’ Review: Netflix’s Fun, Frisky, and Surprisingly Feminist Twist on the Sherlock Holmes Mythos

[...] her famous big brothers — Henry Cavill as a smiling and smooth Sherlock, Sam Claflin as the perpetually buttoned-up and by-the-book Mycroft — descend on their crumbling manor, intent on packing Enola off to finishing school to, well, finish.

Hot on her trail are her brothers, with Cavill adding a debonair edge to Sherlock and Claflin gleefully toying with Mycroft’s uptight nature (is he a bad guy? just a bit of a wanker? could go either way!), as Enola attempts to make her way in the world.

‘Enola Holmes’ Review: Good Enough To Spawn Netflix’s Next Movie Franchise

Brown is more than adequate as the title character, and the film only plays the “It’s a girl… doing the thing!” card when it’s relevant to the plot.

The production values, the cast and the relatively self-contained nature of the story had me all set to sing Netflix’s huzzahs until I realized that it was supposed to be a Warner Bros. theatrical release. No matter, credit for the smart buy is still due, and this could easily be a new multi-part film franchise to keep Brown and Cavill (the stars of two of their biggest shows) in the Netflix family. Enola Holmes ideal “Saturday night family movie night” entertainment.

‘Enola Holmes’ Review: Millie Bobby Brown Shines in This Rollicking Adventure

In the past, I’ve lamented the decline of the PG adventure movie. Kids are either shunted off into family-friendly animated features or they’re thrust into the blockbuster fare of PG-13 summer tentpoles. It’s getting harder to find movies that are appropriate for the 9-12 set while also being terrific. Enter Enola Holmes, a cinematic and electrifying adaptation of a YA book series that focuses on Sherlock Holmes’ kid sister. Developed as a feature in part by star Millie Bobby Brown (who also serves as a producer on the film), Enola Holmes is a pure delight from start to finish that spins a captivating mystery yarn worthy of its protagonist’s surname while being family friendly enough that parents won’t have to worry about anything too dark scaring their young ones. With the skillful direction of Fleabag helmer Harry Bradbeer, a strong supporting cast, and Brown proving she can carry a project all on her own, Enola Holmes is a total charmer that will have you eager to see further adventures of this young detective.

We may not get many PG adventure movies today, but even if we did, Enola Holmeswould likely be among the top tier. The plotting is sharp, the characters are endearing, the adventure is exhilarating, and the direction is superb. If this is the beginning of a franchise, then Brown has chosen an excellent vehicle for herself, and I can’t wait to see the young Ms. Holmes solve more mysteries.

Enola Holmes review: Does Millie Bobby Brown Netflix detective jaunt deliver on the buzz?

Enola Holmes is one of the streaming giant’s massive pandemic releases, along with The Devil All The Time, and will give Disney Plus a run for its money in the ’empowered young woman being a boss’ stakes with the latter’s recent release of Mulan – of course the main difference being you don’t have to pay an extra twenty-something quid extra in order to watch Enola Holmes.

When it comes to the cinematography, that was a delight – with beautiful vistas of the English countryside, before we move to the gritty streets of 19th century industrial London.

Bringing a little quirk, Enola’s narration is illustrated with scrabble tiles and scribbles which is a cute touch if you’re into that.

We did see many modern attitudes meshed with the antique, with Millie perfectly personifying a character that won’t adhere to the societal norms of what a young woman should (at the time) and it’s a worthy pursuit that doesn’t feel forced down our throats. It’s a brilliant feminist twist on the detective tale that has been helmed by men to this point.

Millie is a fiendishly cheeky lead and brings an irreverent spark and wit to the film.

Sam Claflin is a brilliantly menacing Mycroft Holmes, while Henry Cavill is a long-haired charmer as the famous detective Sherlock Holmes – even if it does go against the apparent canon of his character, which recently landed the production in hot water with author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s estate. But you can never have enough Henry Cavill smirks.

Variety

‘Enola Holmes’ Review: Millie Bobby Brown Rocks as Sherlock’s Kid Sister in Clever Netflix Original

“Enola Holmes” offers a different kind of feminism from that game-changing show, based less in accepting women with all their flaws than in the conviction that men have bossed around long enough, and it’s time to make room for other people.

While the project may be British, it could hardly be a coincidence that a story hinging on this decisive vote over the Reform Act should land within weeks of America’s most important election in decades. And what could be more empowering than the film’s twin messages? The first, “You are not alone,” should resonate with the young women in the audience. Enola (whose name, we’re too-frequently reminded, is “alone” spelled backward) becomes a symbol of solidarity for those who feel like outsiders in their nonconformity. And the second, “Every vote counts,” speaks to those old enough to impact elections, reminding that the right was an honor hard-won.

It’s one thing to be dismissive of Mycroft, but the casting of Cavill turns the iconic Sherlock character into what we might call metrosexual today: worked-out and so meticulously groomed he easily could be mistaken for gay — a far cry from the tweed-clad, deerstalker-capped gentleman of yore.

Brown’s acting style recalls the effusive spontaneity Keira Knightley brought to “Pride and Prejudice,” shattering the straitlaced propriety of so many Jane Austen adaptations before it.

Screenwriter Jack Thorne never gives us that Holmesian pleasure of putting all the pieces together to explicate the mystery. Director Bradbeer and editor Adam Bosman maintain a jaunty pace throughout, propelled by DP Giles Nuttgens’ dynamic camera, whose CG-embellished widescreen compositions subvert the stuffy Merchant Ivory-esque locations with a “Kingsman”-esque pop energy.

But Why Tho?

REVIEW: Enola Holmes is Filled With Surprises

Over the course of the film, Enola exemplifies why people love Doyle’s work. She solves puzzles, deduces answers to situations, but more importantly, she is arrogant in a tenacious way that she backs up with knowledge. Arrogant here isn’t meant as a slight, Instead, its meant to point out that Enola is entrusted to carry every element of the Sherlockian tropes and identity, instead of being forced into a prim and proper box. But this is balanced by elements of reality.

The cast is superb. Cavill as Sherlock showcases a side of the character that we have truly never seen before. While it is slightly unnerving to see Sherlock’s kindness and his familial sensibilities, the way Cavill brings it to life is beautiful. In his mentoring of Enola, we see the way logic can be used over emotion without coldness, a trait we’re not familiar with from Sherlock. Claflin is awful, as Moriarty and he’s supposed to be. He’s sexist, cold, and determined to push what he thinks is right all while ignoring Enola. On the other hand, Cavill is an older brother that is caring, considerate, and in awe of his baby sister. This is a balance that works, even when I didn’t think it would. Also, while I was skeptical of Cavill looking the part of Sherlock, he nails it in his facial expressions and mannerisms.

But, the best choice that Enola Holmes makes is to not center this story around Enola’s connection to her famous brothers but instead around her mother and the group of women she is connected with.

The best part of Enola Holmes is that it is a film that belongs to Millie Bobbie Brown’s film. She is the center of the story and commands the screen regardless of who she’s acting with.

While a lot of the “girl power” commentary is hamfisted, it’s not something that I rolled my eyes at like I did in Captain Marvel. Instead, Enola pushes against gender roles and expectations. But, she does it her way, moving those around her to see her worth and her identity.

In truth, Enola Holmes is adventurous, fun, comedic, and just the right heart-warming young adult adventure for the times. While it may not be perfect, it is beyond enjoyable for me as an adult, and I can see it being even more so for young ones watching.

Enola Holmes Review: Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill's YA Film Is a Fun Twist on the Sherlock Holmes Story

This is a playful, dress-up kind of movie for kids and adults that reminded me of older classics that used to come packaged in enormous clamshell VHS cases way back when. I mean this very much as a compliment, and I suspect that Enola Holmes will be well-liked by young people, and parents who watch along won't feel the itch to go into the other room to do something else.

The almost comically handsome Cavill is the legendary genius detective Sherlock Holmes, and Claflin is his frowny, conservative older brother Mycroft. But they are very much supporting characters. The star and narrator is Brown as their spirited and independent kid sister, Enola. She is warm, funny, charming, just as good a sleuth as her big brother Sherlock, and, in a surprise twist, quite the street brawler when she needs to be. A good deal of solid comedy is derived from Brown's quick asides

Enola Holmes could be a one-off, but it would be a shame if that were the case. Not only are the main characters terrific, but this is a great way for British talent to put on period clothes and show up for a quick guest appearance, hopefully for years to come.

Why do they keep bringing HC’s looks into this? His looks has nothing to do with his acting skills. Did he play Sherlock convincingly or not? And since when or says who is SC not handsome? HC can’t help that storytellers like to make the bad guy ugly and the good guy pretty. SC is the bad brother. So they made him less pretty with an ugly mustache. HC is the good brother. So they made him prettier with curls that will give Shirley Temple’s curls a run for their money.

‘Enola Holmes’ Is Good Enough to Give Netflix a New Franchise

Normally, when Netflix acquires a feature from a major film studio, it’s because the movie was never going to work as a theatrical release. Often, studios use the streamer as a dumping ground for guaranteed misfires that would have cost them a bundle of money. That is why nominally high-profile pictures such as The Cloverfield Paradox (Paramount Pictures) or big-budget Mowgli (Warner Bros.) wind up as “Netflix Originals.” But that is not the case for Legendary Entertainment’s Enola Holmes—acquired in April due to the theatrical closure forced by the coronavirus pandemic—which feels as if it could have been the next successful YA big screen series under normal circumstances.

Both Enola Holmes and its rising young star, Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown, effortlessly radiate charm [...] She is the driving force behind the film’s cheerful mystery, seamlessly delivering cozy and energetic exposition via precocious fourth-wall breaks.

Cavill feels right at home as a swarthy British aristocrat with a good heart, far more organic and charming with his own natural accent. Claflin tones down the fascist tones of his underrated antagonistic turn in the most recent season of Peaky Blinders for an appropriately wretched older brother with room to grow. But this is Brown’s movie start-to-finish.

[…] screenwriter Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) do a wonderful job of capturing that same thinking-out-loud visual aesthetic that turns exposition into more of a snack than a chore.

Enola Holmes isn’t a revolution or revelation that is going to forever alter the course of cinema, but it is enough of a charming and cheerful change to give Netflix a new franchise.

Metrosexual/meticulously groomed is gay now? lol That's a stupid thing to say. So a woman who doesn’t use make-up or doesn’t shave her eyebrows and under her arms is a lumberjack, tomboy or lesbian? lol If you prefer weird-looking Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, that’s fine. No need to be unprofessional and say stupid things simply because you don’t like HC. A Victorian gentleman might be worse than a metrosexual. When I think Victorian gentleman, I think too elegant and very flamboyant. Rich men talking and sipping tea from little cups all day. They have no idea what an honest day’s work is or look like. lol

They like to do that. Look at Rami Malek’s face in No Time To Die or Doctor Poison in the first WW film. HC and the other bad guys in MI6 had an ugly beard or stache.
