I'd never heard of this show before I saw Phoebe on SNL. She was really funny so I decided to check out a couple episodes of her show. Ended up binge watching all 12 episodes, 6 hours in one go, and I see what all the praise & awards are about. You don't get a 100% Rottentomatoes, 100% Metacritic score for nuthin!

What I really liked wasn't just the humor but the careful way the show is put together, teasing us with some heavy & suspenseful stuff in just the right doses to give us substance without killing the comedy. And the reveal at the end of season 1 was really unexpected yet perfect. Season 2 was great also, but unfortunately I'd heard a spoiler so it wasn't quite the surprise. I love how it wrapped up after 2 seasons, saying what it had to say and ending without trying to milk it longer (which it easily could've done).

It's been a while since I enjoyed a tv show so much. Last time was probably "After Life" or "Extras" by Ricky Gervais. UK comedy nails it.

Yes it is. This kind of creative, daring, humour can't be found on the BBC anymore. There are too many restrictive rules now. But I can still enjoy rewatching these old series.

No way, that’s a shame. The irreverent sex humor surprised me, but it’s there for a reason. It’s the key to her character, and when she psychoanalyzes herself in later episodes it’s poignant, hilarious and heartbreaking. A censored version just wouldn’t fly.

UK was producing some hard hitting yet funny shows around then. Ricky Gervais’s “After Life” (2019) was another edgy one for different reasons. It’s about a guy who’s suicidally depressed, and it doesn’t hold back. Yet there’s some great comedy throughout.

Shows like that & Fleabag know how to do dark comedy without making a joke out of the seriousness of it all.

The evaluation you wrote is very good.👍
