Have to say I'm still "on the fence" when it comes to the finale. It's not that I disliked it, it's just that I'm not quite sure how much I did like it. I haven't re-watched yet...so maybe I'll be a little less iffy after I do.
Anyway…
One of the things I was pleased about was the “Family Update” Kevin gave while sitting at Nora’s table baring his soul.
I was sorry we didn’t get the chance to witness any of it; but glad we got a chance to hear. Matt was my favorite so hearing his fate was a little sad; but, I'm still grateful to the writers for giving us even that much closure.

I really liked the finale and I thought this entire season was amazing. Matt was my favorite too. I'm glad they gave closure on everyone. I wish Matt didn't die. His scenes with Nora were so touching and raw.

Yes.
If the finale had taken place right after the rains DIDN'T come, then we could have done without a wrap-up. But, since it was such a long time after, a where-are-they-now update seemed appropriate.
As for Matt and Nora...always loved their scenes together.
