Left everything else behind at IMDb...decided I may as well include my old username. Hopefully, it will not take me five years to come up with a new one.
I'm here pop! Good to see my BBT peeps! I can't believe they shut the board down so early - I went on around 11:30, figuring I would stay on until it disappeared. I was so disappointed it was already gone!
Hello Gothish and company!
I planned my farewell itinerary and before going to bed on Sunday I wanted to visit several favourite boards. I intended to return later for what I had presumed would be the Pacific Time "lights out".
I wanted to wave nearly 20 years of reading IMDb goodbye on the Broken Blossoms (1919) board - my very first read. From boyhood to manhood, I've learned so much from IMDb posters. They provided obscure film/telly information and recommendations I found no where else. Losing TWoP and others was hard; this was worse.
So, I was composing replies to TBBT "Destruction of a Library" and "Favorite Posters" threads. (I even had a fresh virtual handkerchief at the ready to dab away my Lady of Lothlorien's tears.) As I was typing, the blasted thing slammed shut. A final, wordless, slap-in-the-face "D'oh"!
I realised it was just after midnight, and it was indeed the 20th - here. But using Greenwich Mean Time meant North Americans were abruptly and unceremoniously dispossessed by early evening/afternoon.
Ending by time zone, or at least announcing a universal cut-off hour would have been a more dignified exit for such an iconic Internet institution. I've experienced a number of board closures on a wide variety of subjects, but IMDb's had to be among the most graceless.
Then, within minutes, my Android tablet was apparently so enraged by the event that it went into sudden shock. Electronic cardiac arrest. Blank. Bricked. What? *WHAT!? *
Bah! Well, disconcerted but undeterred, we have no choice but to carry on...
No! I was wondering how many people that might have happened to. WTF? How hard would it have been to schedule a shut-down time? And then to pull the plug early? Messed up.
Off to....Wikipedia! to read up on Broken Blossoms.

I saw a post asking directly what time the closure would occur. The poster was rudely rebuffed with a brusque official reply, saying no specific time would be announced. Blimey, talk about stone cold.
Seen through 21st century eyes, Broken Blossoms is sometimes criticised for being racist due to the casting and characterisations. However, I thought it a sad and beautiful film, among the first silents I ever saw. I still find the closet scene utterly harrowing. It's said Gish's screams could be heard all over the lot. Brrr.

Perhaps a count down clock...something like the ball drop in Times Square, NYC during new year's celebration. Something, anything ceremoniously.
To do their members/fans like that leaves a bad feeling . Like they were never worth it...regardless of the many years of use and contributions and dedication.
Wow! That sent such a bad message and I feel that every member should find a platform and make an effort to send a LOUD and CLEAR message to IMDb that they suck for what they did and more importantly how they did it.
I can't wait for this site to pick up in topics and responses. BTW, I only found out about this site through IMDB boards closing. It has a pretty nice layout from what I can see.

Yes, very much this. "Only a ruffian deals a blow with the back of the hand." They placed no value at all on the Internet history of their own site and the very real contributions of posters on the various boards over so many years. It's truly disheartening how the end was handled. In a word, ugh.

The founder and lead engineer Travis has been working his ass off since the beginning weeks of this month ramping things up to provide a new home for all the refugees. I have personally made requests and have seen one improvement after another daily...including granting fan/new comers wishes.
The guy is awesome and Amazon could learn a lot from him about customer relations and commitment.
It's been amazing to witness the board evolve over the past weeks. 👍😎 👀 ✔ 👊 👏

The day I came on to check this place out, the thread - - "IMDb closing message boards" had just started. Travis Bell was responding left and right to members concerns and suggestions. It's at over 400 responses now. The changes since I first signed up have been impressive. Someone is hard at work. They must like us. ...I do sorta feel like I crashed someone's party and I'm playing around with their parents stereo. "There's a preponderance of bass Joel "

May I ask what your old nick was? Have we met?
"Trendrick".
As for "Have we met?"...I'm so awful with names. There is no way I can say.
I signed up here after the warning that IMDb was closing their boards down, but I don't see anything that works at all like it. I'm disappointed. I'm interested in a number of shows, but I tried specifically searching this site for NCIS and for This Is Us -- and seemed to get nowhere.

Hm. NCIS does seem to have a surprising lack of activity. Give it time Lim! Hang with us Big Bangers for a bit. There's a very creative and fun group gathering here. All of us are going through the learning process. You figured out how to get here. If you managed that you can go start up some topics for those shows and get the ball rolling there! This site isn't that hard to navigate but is different than IMDb but also better in many ways. So don't give up. Ask questions!
