Yeah AMC is probably the best channel here in the states.
From what I've heard it's HBO. That's the logo that seems to come up most when I watch tv shows: Westworld, The Wire, True Detective, etc.
Well HBO has the biggest budgets for their productions. They have blockbuster movie budgets. Regular channels do not. Also regular channels have to play nice and kiss sponsors asses since sponsors literally pay for network shows. HBO does not have to play nice with sponsors or censors for that matter. So HBO has nudity, extreme violence and cussing, while those other networks do not.

That does explain a lot.
But does that really mean we should give extra points to regular channel's output because they have a handicap? I don't think so.
Of course everything is subjective and you can rate things how you want. But I judge something on the end product only. Lack of resources? Studio control? Production difficulties? I don't take any of that into account. It's end result vs end result.
And besides, huge budgets don't necessarily make for better output. Films like Batman and Robin and Pearl Harbor had humongous budgets yet they are an absolute joke. It's testament to HBO that they don't let that power and money go to their head, frequently producing shows that are artistically minded and that treat the audience like adults.
I don't really know if it is over rated or not, I like that TV is improving and getting bigger budgets. The production values of this show are amazing. That said I was expecting far better in terms of story, I got quite bored at many points and I think it was far longer than it needed to be. So much filler, and so many old fashioned things like a meandering episode that builds to something dramatic and then it ends and makes you tune in next week... Better shows don't bother with that kind of cheapness anymore, they just deliver the goods whenever it needs to happen. I rated GoT 2.5 out of 5 and I think that is fair. Before this I watched Spartacus, and before that I watched Deadwood, and before that I watched People vs OJ, and all of those I enjoyed far more than GoT. Spartacus and OJ especially.
Can you seriously name a show that is as overrated as GOT? I don't think you can. I can't.
I'll name three and I don't even consider myself to be more than a casual fan of GOT: The West Wing, Lost, and Gilmore Girls
The West Wing won a bunch of awards bro. Lost was humongous popularity wise, but yeah past season 1 it fell off. Gilmore Girls LOL? WTF? Do heterosexual men watch that crap? I don't think I've ever seen a single episode.

So are you saying that only the shows that 'heterosexual men' watch count?

No I'm a big fan of Will & Grace the original run. I actually loved that show when it was at its prime.

YES! I loved People vs OJ as well as the sequel the Andrew Cunan Versace Killer story. Both had incredible story telling that sucked you in and couldn't wait for the next episode, even though we all know how both of those stories ended.
Yeah it was amazing. I especially love the lady who played Marcia, she is a hell of an actress. Spartacus was amazing too. I give up at the first episode because it looked cheap and childish so I googled it and everyone said to give it 3 episodes. By episode 4 I had never been so hooked on a show before... amazing really. I had some fun with Game of Thrones too but not as much as these other shows. Just too slow for me. I am looking forward to the last season with the big battle. I just wish it happened a year ago like it should have.

Yes! I remember as a kid everyone was pretty much on OJ's side and now in 2018 with our technology advancements , especially in DNA and everything else, everyone now thinks OJ did it lol. I remember a lot of people hated Marcia Clark for prosecuting OJ back during the trial and now especially after watching it you really saw a likable humanizing side to her story.
Even Johnny Cochran, we saw he had doubt in OJ and the episode where he got harassed by police for doing nothing wrong when he was a younger attorney with his daughters.

Seriously? If Scandal is your go-to for quality television, then I get why you aren't a GOT fan. Scandal is... cute...
