Suport de The Movie Database

I’m trying to sort out some confusion I have around anthology shows and wanted to double-check the right approach to edit, since I don’t know if this is something that is a special case scenario, or if I missed it in the bible

Specifically, I’m looking at Club Friday The Series, which has been running since 2012 and is now on its 17th season. The way the seasons and stories are organized is super inconsistent. For example:

Should all 17 seasons of Club Friday The Series be on one main series page, with each season listed there (like Season 1, Season 2, etc.), instead of having separate pages for each season or story?

Right now, some stories are showing up in multiple places, which causes duplicate credits on actor profiles. Just want to make sure we’re contributing this the right way and avoid this for future seasons, too.

*What’s the best way to clean this up? *

Also, for titling anthologies (or episodes in general), my understanding is we should format them like: "Story Title" (1), "Story Title" (2), etc.

But sometimes I see episode titles (in origin country) that are more like descriptions, so instead of the actual story title, it'll be: "Maggie Finds Jack Cheating," "Maggie Forgives Jack"

A more current example from a TV show (not an anthology) but having a descriptive title in Chinese vs the actual title stated in episodes: Dear Enemy Episode 1

I see this a lot with Chinese shows, and I assume that it's coming from the API (sorry if that's not correct, as I'm not too versed with the API/tech aspect).

*In those cases, should we keep it as the title from the API pull or go with the episode/story title as it's stated in the episode? *

The rule for this site is to follow how the tv show first aired on its original network. Usually this means following the way the episodes and seasons were ordered and named on the original network's website when/as the series aired on its original network. Does that help you figure out how this series should be listed on this site?

Unfortunately not all users that add content to this database will follow these rules or know that these are the rules so content may be incorrectly added to this site. In that case, things need to be fixed and perhaps deleted (content reports need to be made for mods to deal with this).

Also the translated name field for episodes should only be used for official translations (original translated episode titles). Whether or not the titles are "descriptive" or not, whether they seem like descriptions doesnt matter. They just have to be the official translated titles.

You can read some of the info here:

For the Club Friday series, not really - just because it’s so massive. It all falls under the Club Friday title, but each season has its own theme. Each season also has its own network page that lists all the stories, and each of those stories links to its own page as well.

So technically, it could be organized like American Horror Story, but the alternative name section would get clunky. There are 17 seasons, and each has 4–9+ story titles. All titles should be listed for search purposes, so they don't end up being duplicated.

Because of that, I don’t want to make a bunch of edits without a MOD confirming what’s correct for this series.

Also the translated name field for episodes should only be used for official translations (original translated episode titles). Whether or not the titles are "descriptive" or not, whether they seem like descriptions doesnt matter. They just have to be the official translated titles.

For a lot of Chinese series, even if there is or isn’t an official episode title, they often use a descriptive title on the network site. So, instead of leaving the episode title blank or using the actual title shown in the episode’s opening/anthology title, users are inputting these descriptive lines as episode titles, even though they’re not technically official titles.

For example, in Dear Enemy, the title shown at the start of the episode is 你觉得我不配是吗, but the descriptive title listed on the network site is 高叶陈妍希娇妻觉醒斗渣男—. So, users who are just plugging information are just adding the descriptive titles.

The issue is that this has already been done across hundreds of thousands of Chinese episodes, so it’s not an easy fix at this point. Rather than getting into editing wars or filing multiple reports, I think there should be clearer guidelines somewhere, especially since not all countries have a direct equivalent for crew roles or standard episode/show details. A lot of users are just going by their own judgment, even when using the contribution bible.

The contribution bible already clearly states that translated titles are only for official titles. The only solution is to file multiple reports (maybe one report per tv show) to get it fixed by a moderator so that they can remove the titles and lock the translated field as blank. Another option would be to make a private report in the general section with a link(s) to user(s) profiles who are adding lots of made-up titles that need to be deleted. That way perhaps several series can be dealt with at once and users that abuse the rules may get warned (so they know what theyre doing wrong and understand not to do it) or suspended if it seems they simply continue breaking the rules (hopefully preventing future incorrect data).

Can you please share the link(s) that shows this? (additionally I dont know what you mean by each season having its own theme. what is a theme and what does that have to do with how this show should be listed- what does that have to do with how the show originally aired on tv?
