From quick access to editing movie details on the go, an app would let users stay logged in and jump right into making updates without the hassle of repeated logins. IMDB has embraced the app experience—maybe TMDB could, too?

In the eyes of myself as a contributer, IMDB has been falling of a cliff the last few years in terms of user experience (contribution/research) with their UI. It's horrible. To maintain a database you don't need a fancy UI, you need a useful UI with practical features - they lost the plot unfortuntely. They created an app, and later on merged the desktop version to the mobile UI. In my experience you'll need a computer to contribute efficiently anyways - apart form the occational edit. I don't see the benefit of an app, really. Creating an app means much additional work so I don't see it coming but who knows.
If one uses tmdb not mainly to contribute but more for logging stuff, that may be a different point of view.
