The Movie Database-ondersteuning

Hi there,

I'm playing around with the Find by ID request: https://developer.themoviedb.org/reference/find-by-id

For services like iMDB, the TVDB, Wikidata where the external_ID is well defined for movies or TV shows, it works great.

I'm having more trouble understanding how it works for YouTube or Tiktok. As an example, here is a show that can be found on YouTube: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/65701-good-mythical-morning/

What field on this page matches up with an external_ID? Things I've tried:

  • Homepage: http://youtube.com/rhettandlink2 - No result
  • Homepage: rhettandlink2 - No result
  • Source key of a video: 1iLbfGIygO0 - No result
  • Original name: Good Mythical Morning - No result

I can get results for people (using MrBeast returned https://www.themoviedb.org/person/2282154-jimmy-donaldson), so I'm guessing this is just user error on my part and I'm overlooking a field on a TV show or movie page.

Cheers.

Hi @frigginbrownie,

A few things:

First, the only social ID's supported on movies and TV shows are; Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. YouTube and TikTok are only available on people.

Second, there aren't any social external ID's added to Good Mythical Morning. You can see this on TMDB by noticing there's no links on the right hand sidebar, OR, by visiting the external ID edit page. So there isn't any social ID's you could find it with.

Hi Travis, thanks for the response.

So the find by ID page states that YouTube is an external source for TV Shows, Movies, and People. Are you saying that the documentation is incorrect, and that YouTube is only for source people? That would match up with what I intially found and what you wrote.

I wanted to confirm because when I read that page, what I inferred was that you could use YouTube as an external source, and with the right external_ID it would return a result of a matching TV show or movie.

Page is located here: https://developer.themoviedb.org/reference/find-by-id

The "find by Id" can only search in the external Ids page of each movie and/or series.

There are currently no YouTube Id field there, so searching with a YouTube Id is not possible.

I don't know :

  • If there was such a field in the past that have been removed
  • If it's a planned evolution
  • or if it's simply a bug in the documentation.
