Question about images pending moderation for weeks/months

Should I just be patient and wait for pending images to be approved or should I just try to re-upload them again when it's obvious there's no violation and the images just got caught in some sort of automated filter? I assume the latter is not advisable, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks.
