Apparently, when there are multiple images with no votes, downvoting one of them puts it above the others.

I feel like that's been how it is forever, or at least since around 2017 (since Ive been around)? Was it different before then? So at this point I would think its more likely a feature than a bug. But I suppose it probably would be better if it wasnt the case.

I don't know if anything changed, but when I asked about this years ago, I was basically told that it was set up that way on purpose. I'm not sure if this is solely for a functional purpose (new, unrated images appears at the bottom) or if it also make some sense rating-wise.

Yeah, it looks intentional, just feels weird. I'm sure there's a better way to do that, like using absolute ratings with negative values allowed or something like that. I mean, if users dislike 1 of the 10 images, it is much more logical to downvote 1 instead of upvoting 9, to move it to the bottom of the list.
