Dear TMDB Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to discuss a concern regarding the current structuring of the "Seasons" and "Episode Groups" sections in your database. At present, the way seasons are defined, particularly for anime series, does not always align with industry standards or user expectations. In this letter, I would like to present suggestions for optimizing the classification of TV shows and anime to enhance both accuracy and user experience.
Your website already features an excellent "Episode Groups" functionality, which has the potential to completely replace the existing "Seasons" structure. Since many TV shows and anime series follow different categorization methods (such as absolute order, broadcast order, and DVD release order), a more flexible and precise approach would be beneficial. To address this, I propose the following improvements:
1) Replace the "Seasons" section with "Episode Groups" – This would provide a more accurate method for structuring TV shows and anime based on their actual distribution and viewing order, rather than forcing them into a single season-based framework.
2) Restrict users from creating custom episode groups – Instead of allowing users to create their own groups, only predefined groups included in TMDB's database should be available. This would prevent inconsistencies and maintain data integrity.
3) Enhance "Episode Groups" with season-related metadata – By integrating essential fields from the current "Seasons" section into "Episode Groups," it would be possible to retain season-specific information while allowing greater flexibility in classification.
4) Enable multi-language support for group titles – Adding translation support for "Episode Groups" would ensure that international users can access localized versions of group names, improving accessibility and usability.
5) Consider industry-standard classifications – Many anime and TV shows are structured differently across platforms (e.g., streaming services vs. television broadcasts), and allowing for these variations within TMDB would make the database more reliable and widely used by the community.
I strongly believe that these adjustments would improve the overall accuracy and consistency of TMDB's database while making it more adaptable to different classification methods used by the entertainment industry. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further and look forward to your response.
