The Movie Database Support

Hi. I'm new here but keen to help out where needed. Setting up my XBMC system for the first time, I noticed some strange genre classifications for a few films. I thought I might make the corrections at the source rather than local to my system. In particular, it looks like Science Fiction is sometimes applied to Fantasy films - Babe, Ghost, Lord of the Rings. It's a common mix-up in the literature too, so it's not surprising.

If the genre editing is working, I'll have a spin through the Science Fiction genre and delete the genre from films that are really more Fantasy. I hope this helps! I'll leave ones like "V For Vendetta" which are marginal - some put dystopian futures in Science Fiction even when there's not a technological cause. If I'm over-enthusiastic in the edits, just ping me here and I'll be more conservative.

Cheers!

Oh dear. Looks like genre edits are still not saved, so I'll wait to make further. Changes on Ghost, LOTR, and others are not saved, tho the edit is recorded in the change log.

I think I have found a temporary work around for the genre edit bug.

  • Delete all the genres in the movie and save.
  • Then add back only the appropriate genres and save.

It has worked in the past for me, and it seems to have worked for Ghost.

And just so people can try to keep genre saving issues in one place, here is the official thread.
