Such a terrific, expressive voice, and a searing "real deal" singing style that grabs the listener.
Here's a sampler of a few of my personal fave Joe Cocker hits:

Loved him. Here is 'A Little Help From My Friends' at Woodstock (I wish the quality was better though):

J Cocker also really balances the scales in his major hit duet with J Warnes, "Up Where We Belong" (1982).
Those two really know how to offset each other, especially after it's often been said that recording executives were leary at the first thought of matching the lovely J Warnes with J Cocker.
But the results speak for themselves.

As you pointed out on the movie board, genplant, "You Can Leave Your Hat On" is a great tune -- very unmistakable with Cocker's voice and all.

Here's the thread that you've mentioned, Cell.
Joe Cocker is a singer who always fascinated me whenever I saw him on t.v. during my growing up and early adulthood years, as I'd never before (nor have I since) seen any other performer who invested so completely, including physically, in the singing of (more like the being possessed by) a song. There's so much pure "truth" in his song renditions and performances, that cuts to the core of whatever it is that he happened to be singing about at the time.

Hope this link works. Can't think of any performer who would put aside their ego and let another talent do an imitation right next to them
