I was never a fan & it truly annoyed me when people would compare him with Al Pacino, who IMHO was far & away superior to Hoffman.

I really respect Dustin's acting. He and Pacino were both somewhat ordinary-looking guys in their heyday - a time when it was just fine for an actor to be ordinary-looking. IMO, Pacino's greater accolades are deserved. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Al is "superior" to Hoffman.
