So sad. I just saw the causes of death were released. Gene's wife died of hantavirus, and about a week later Gene died of heart disease possibly unaware that his wife had died because he was in advanced stages of Alzheimers. There was no food in his stomach suggesting that maybe he was unable to feed himself. And as if all that wasn't tragic enough, their dog was found dead in a crate, possibly there recovering from a surgery earlier. I'm guessing the dog couldn't get any food or water and Gene was too disoriented to know what was going on. RIP all.

Yes. One of the Giants of the industry.

I never saw him in a role where his acting disappointed me. He was that rarest of actor...one who could play any role; believably. "The Conversation" is by far, my favorite. I became a fan while watching it, and never stopped being one. I was sorry (and surprised) when he announced that he was retiring. But, (I was thinking) maybe it no longer means to him what it once did.

He leaves behind a lot of great work from a long, stellar career. And, for that, fans like me are truly grateful.
