I can't watch everything there is, but I did watch plenty and what is worth watching. There are more shows that were just good and not included here, because they are not the best. So here are the best in my opinion, shows that define generations, historical periods, shows that stay in memory for a long time, important shows that everyone have to watch at some point in time, shows that changed the TV. The list includes just drama shows, I have another list for best comedy TV shows which are equally great.

There is a big argument between the fans which show it considered the best, The Wire or The Sopranos. But it's actually Mad Men that takes the top spot. This show is probably the closest thing to come close to be a visual poetry. And you need to watch the show few times to properly catch every nuance and every detail, but this beautiful story about a mankind reflects the very essence of our world and the delicate condition of our species. This is the smartest and the most intelligent show ever created up until now, and this is a solid number 1 for me.

If Mad Men is closest thing to a poetry, The Wire is the closest thing to blue-collar realism. The survival of the unfortunate, the sick, the inflicted. Men caught up in the struggle for life and death at the very bottom of society, struggle in which everyone looses something and everyone is alone.

A deep look into peoples lives will always create a sympathy towards them. When you watch these people and their relationships, follow them in their constant troubles or participate with them in their occasional happiness, you tend to neglect an objective look of who these people are and dismiss their obvious flaws. Even if they are killers, thieves, murderers and liars. It's easy to forget that these people are rotten and evil, they are sociopaths and some are true psychopaths. And this brilliant show makes us watch and like and understand them. The greatest moments are when these evil people get what they deserve, but we love them so much we refuse to accept it, feeling sorry for these lost souls.

The show that started it all and did it long time before being a TV show stopped being a curse word. Masterful storytelling of Twin Peaks is overshadowed only by the even more brilliant mix of mystery, suspense and humor. And the new third season that returned 25 years after the original is another perfect piece of puzzle that gives a bigger window into this strange and disturbing world of dreams and supernatural. Deserves to be among the greatest.

"In the middle of the journey of our life, I came to myself, in a dark wood, where the direct way was lost." As oppose to Dante, Walter White intended to travel only in one direction, and his journey is breathtaking to watch.

Death comes to us all, sometimes in most hilarious ways. Complex and many times uneasy to watch, this is still a brilliantly written and constructed TV show.
